Dr. Masaru Emoto, a researcher and alternative healer from Japan has given the world a good deal of evidence of the magic of positive thinking. He became famous when his water molecule experiments featured in the 2004 film, What The Bleep Do We Know? His experiments demonstrate that human thoughts and intentions can alter physical reality, such as the molecular structure of water. Given that humans are comprised of at least 60% water, his discovery has far reaching implications… can anyone really afford to have negative thoughts or intentions?

The rice experiment is another famous Emoto demonstration of the power of negative thinking (and conversely, the power of positive thinking.) Dr Emoto placed portions of cooked rice into two containers. On one container he wrote “thank you” and on the other “you fool”. He then instructed school children to say the labels on the jars out loud…

Quick Guide: Renting vs. Buying

2

Spot

Are you thinking moving and not sure which route to take? To rent or own?

There are a few things to consider when trying to decide what works best for you and your family…

Are you financially ready?

If you’re buying, you’ll need a down payment to pay upfront that will fund the equity in the property that proves to lenders you’ve got skin in the homeowner game. The amount you’ll need varies, but the standard preferred amount is 20% and that often gets you the best rates.

When renting – in most cases – there’s no need for a hefty down payment. You may have to come up with a deposit, but it’s generally a lot less than the 20% usually required for buying.

Are you ready for monthly mortgage payments?

If you’re buying, this is the amount you’ll pay each month, which in most cases includes principal, interest (both of which are…

The Golden Rule of Investing

Dividend Income Investors

What is the “Golden Rule of Investing”?

“Think of all money you earn as a Potential source of Future Income”

Don’t think in terms of how much money you have or have saved but rather how much money you can generate from what you have.

In other words, when you receive your pay check, of course you have to pay your bills. And some bills you will always have – electric, water, gas, phone, mortgage but those that you don’t is where you can get the money to finance your future.  A great example is your car. A lot of people buy a car – and of course they buy into the marketing that owning that luxury or high priced sports car is more fulfilling somehow. But what you need to consider how much future income did you give up for that little bit of prestige you got from…

Donald Trump Wiretaps America: A Philosophical Question & Stephen Hawking fears Trump

1

Stephen Hawking: ‘I fear that I may not be welcome’ in Trump’s America | The Washington Post

“Stephen Hawking says he no longer feels welcome in the United States, now that President Trump is in power. The renowned scientist and theoretical physicist spoke Monday on ITV’s…” ~ Lindsey Bever

Armchair Midrash

Donald Trump

Is something news just because it is mentioned (or tweeted) by the President? As a general rule, the answer is “yes”. What the President does, what the President says is news because he is the President.

The White House takes great pains to set the news cycle by controlling the president’s message and by managing what is said and when it is said. That task has proven more difficult during the Trump administration due to the President’s penchant for tweeting, but the same principles apply. In fact, perhaps due in part to said tweets this administration has demonstrated particular expertise in controlling the media.

President Trump has even taken to declaring what is and what is not “news”.

No one likes to keep track of their spending habits. It is scary and even I find myself shocked at how much I can spend while on a trip to the mall or even the grocery store. Not having a set budget can really hurt you when you are trying to keep some money in your savings account. How do you know how much you are spending? How much should you be spending? What will happen if you buy that gorgeous Dooney & Burke purse when you really just need groceries?

Sticking to your budget is hard. Trust me I’ve been there. But it is even more difficult to buy necessities when your bank account is at zero. I have found that keeping a budget shows me how much extra money I have that week or month so I know if I can afford to go…

America’ s love affair with celebrities-Why? (BLW Contributor)

MJ

hollywood-close

I’m just curious—what is with the love affair America has with celebrities?

Celebrities are just people doing a job, which happens to be entertainment. They entertain us. They make us laugh. They make us cry. They make us feel. All by pretending to be something they aren’t or someone they aren’t.  Or by singing a song.

They are in front of us. Constantly. Very seldom—probably never—do I see a news program without a story about a celebrity. We see their faces on clothes, bags, magazines, social media, everywhere. We hear about them in conversations and hold conversations about them. And we don’t even know them. It seems that our lives are consumed by unreal characters played by people we don’t even know.

We hear about the personal lives of these celebrities continually. Who is flirting with whom? Who is dating whom? Who is getting a divorce and why? Who gets…

Minimalism: the space between the lines

2

Simple living...with kids

You’ve cleared the clutter, dumped the junk, ditched the rubbish in your home.

Now what?

Minimalism isn’t just about stuff. When we take our first steps on the minimalist path, it seems all about consumerism, saying no to all the stuff we thought we needed but really don’t, and finding the space between the lines.

Minimalism Minimalism: The space between the lines.

It’s a good place to start, but once the junk is gone, and the habit of unnecessarily buying replacements is dead, it becomes glaringly clear that often our actual lives need simplifying too.

Sometimes we’re doing too many activities. We’re spreading our talents too thin, trying to be experts in a number of fields, struggling to be interested in everything.

Other times we find we’re stretched too thin by others.

Our partners need us, our kids need us, our ageing parents need us, and we’re meant to fit it…
