The Benefits Of Planking Everyday!

Planking has become increasingly popular for core strengthening, and for good reason: it works – in large part because it engages multiple muscle groups simultaneously. What are some of the benefits you can expect from adding this exercise to your regular routine?

1. A Toned Belly Planking will help build your deep inner core muscles that lay the groundwork for that six-pack look. As your abdominal muscles become stronger, your mid-section will tighten. Keep in mind, however, that in order to really get “six-pack” abs, you have to shed fat. For men that would be a body fat of about 6 percent, and women around 9 percent, in order to achieve that classic six-pack. This is not necessarily healthy.

2.Reduce Back Pain Planks work for back pain because they strengthen your core, which has the pleasant “side effect” of reducing back pain. They also strengthen your back muscles, especially…

Not Climate Agreement, But Climate Revolt (The Paris Accords)

GODS & RADICALS

“The withdrawal by the United States, the nation with the second highest carbon output in the world (behind China, whose per-capita emissions are less than half those of the US), seems deeply catastrophic.

It is catastrophic, yes. But not for the reasons we might think.”

Environmental and political analysis, from Rhyd Wildermuth

“Philosophers of freedom were mainly, and understandably, concerned with how humans would escape the injustice, oppression, inequality, or even uniformity foisted on them by other humans or human-made systems. Geological time and the chronology of human histories remained unrelated. This distance between the two calendars, as we have seen, is what climate scientists now claim has collapsed….

The mansion of modern freedoms stands on an ever-expanding base of fossil-fuel use.”

Dipesh Chakrabarty, The Climate of History

The world awoke to the news on Thursday that President Donald Trump announced his intention to withdraw the United States from the…

Mama’s Italian Meatballs!

Is Butter a Carb?

Hello again, friends! I hope everyone enjoyed their extended holiday weekend, we certainly did! Tikki got a surprise visit from his Nana & Poppa, it completely made his day. He always gets so excited when people visit, especially when Nana & Poppa visit.

Anyway, let’s talk about meatballs, since that’s what we’re making today.  When I make meatballs (and all Italian food really) it floods my mind with memories of my grandmother cooking and her teaching me how to cook. It also brings up memories of her cussing me out in Sicilian for tasting the food too often, I mean can you blame me? That shit was delicious!

She was, and still is, such an inspiration to me.  So, this post is for her. Let’s get rolling….

Ingredients:

1 lb ground pork

1 lb ground beef

1/2 cup of milk (low carbers, you can use beef stock here instead of…

E is for Early

1

2Minutes with Max

I tried writing all day yesterday, and I couldn’t come up with a good “E” word. I tried writing about elevator music, expectations, effectiveness, I even thought about cheating and misspelling a word so that it would start with E, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I was having a creativity block, and I couldn’t get out of it, so I decided the best thing to do is go to sleep, and wake up at 6:00am the next day so I could get writing, with a fresh head, with a couple hours before we had to get to work.I will be the first person to admit that I am not a morning person. I wish I was, but that’s just not the case. So this morning after half an hour of ignoring my alarm clock, 25 minutes getting into the shower, another five minutes brushing my teeth…

One-Pan Dinner: Salmon, Green Beans & Potatoes

1

There are a lot of things I love about spring – flowers, thunderstorms, open windows and… veggies being in season! I love eating green beans raw, and springtime is when they get really good – especially here in Wisconsin. They are on my short list to plant in our garden this year, so I can’t wait to try this recipe again with homegrown beans!

We’re always looking for healthy, easy meals to make during the week and if you love beans and salmon, this is something that I would recommend trying!

What You Need

This recipe was for just Casey and myself – using only one pan, and it was the perfect amount of food + leftover veggies! You could make more, but you’d obviously need more than one pan, which would defeat the purpose. 😉

  • 2 Salmon filets (mine were marinated in lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, crushed basil and…

Millennials: Entitled? Or Simply Screwed?

1

dont date(,) megan

Sometimes, as a Millennial, I get really resentful.  I get tired of the image of our generation being soft and entitled.  I’m tired of being told that we need to just “get on with it”.  This idea that we were simply given too many participation ribbons as children.

The fact is that the world has changed in the past decade… And Millennials are the fodder.

Tutitions began to rise and we came out  of university with record levels of debt.

Jobs, good and steady jobs, became a thing of the past, replaced by contracts that start and stop, and give very little security.

And, housing, dear God, housing.  In the Lower Mainland one can’t win.  Renting is too much.  Owning is too much.  We buy these little places, our small foothold into the market, and then can’t move up.

We put off marriage, babies, as we attempt to get a grip.
