Mama’s Italian Meatballs!

Is Butter a Carb?

Hello again, friends! I hope everyone enjoyed their extended holiday weekend, we certainly did! Tikki got a surprise visit from his Nana & Poppa, it completely made his day. He always gets so excited when people visit, especially when Nana & Poppa visit.

Anyway, let’s talk about meatballs, since that’s what we’re making today.  When I make meatballs (and all Italian food really) it floods my mind with memories of my grandmother cooking and her teaching me how to cook. It also brings up memories of her cussing me out in Sicilian for tasting the food too often, I mean can you blame me? That shit was delicious!

She was, and still is, such an inspiration to me.  So, this post is for her. Let’s get rolling….

Ingredients:

1 lb ground pork

1 lb ground beef

1/2 cup of milk (low carbers, you can use beef stock here instead of…

Simply Audree Kate

Happy Thursday and almost holiday weekend! I feel like it was just yesterday that I was celebrating Memorial Day Weekend last year in the Hamptons – where has the past year gone?! So, in honor of celebrating the change of seasons, I thought I would style my newest white dress from Abercrombie + Fitch. I paired the dress with a light-weight navy leather jacket – perfect for cooler nights – and some of my favorite accessories. For more summer style inspiration, make sure to follow me on Pinterest because I’m pinning fashion and beauty inspiration every day! (Check out my Summer Style board here!)

Also, I just back to NYC from my long vacation in Arizona and Vegas, and I cannot wait to share the overload of travel and outfit posts coming your way in the next couple of weeks! Stay tuned! xo

E is for Early

1

2Minutes with Max

I tried writing all day yesterday, and I couldn’t come up with a good “E” word. I tried writing about elevator music, expectations, effectiveness, I even thought about cheating and misspelling a word so that it would start with E, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I was having a creativity block, and I couldn’t get out of it, so I decided the best thing to do is go to sleep, and wake up at 6:00am the next day so I could get writing, with a fresh head, with a couple hours before we had to get to work.I will be the first person to admit that I am not a morning person. I wish I was, but that’s just not the case. So this morning after half an hour of ignoring my alarm clock, 25 minutes getting into the shower, another five minutes brushing my teeth…

One-Pan Dinner: Salmon, Green Beans & Potatoes

1

There are a lot of things I love about spring – flowers, thunderstorms, open windows and… veggies being in season! I love eating green beans raw, and springtime is when they get really good – especially here in Wisconsin. They are on my short list to plant in our garden this year, so I can’t wait to try this recipe again with homegrown beans!

We’re always looking for healthy, easy meals to make during the week and if you love beans and salmon, this is something that I would recommend trying!

What You Need

This recipe was for just Casey and myself – using only one pan, and it was the perfect amount of food + leftover veggies! You could make more, but you’d obviously need more than one pan, which would defeat the purpose. 😉

  • 2 Salmon filets (mine were marinated in lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, crushed basil and…

Enemies of our soul: Laziness (BLW Contributor)

MJ

Laziness is surely an enemy of our soul and can hide in places we don’t realize.
Laziness involves a lack of motivation. I consider myself a hard worker, yet I know that in some ways I am lazy. This is not good.  For example, when I was 15 I started learning to play the guitar. I worked at it so hard, finding time any way I could to practice. It was a top priority in my life.

However, when I conquered the basic chords, I slacked off my practice. In time I learned the chords I needed to play songs I wanted to play, but I didn’t work to learn all of them. I slacked off more and more, then I started to learn the piano. I was the same way with that instrument, working hard at first, then becoming more and more slack in my practice. In fact, after…

Children’s Boundaries, Where to Draw the Line?

Meditations of The Dapper Barbarian...

This topic is rather ironic at the moment as I set aside this Sunday morning for the purpose of establishing this blog.  I decided to get up at 6 A.M. so that I would have a few hours to myself before all of the family got up.  Now two hours into it, I have yet to accomplish anything because the dogs and cats have been fighting and woke up my daughter who wants to know everything that I’m doing.  LOL… sound familiar to any of you?

Luckily the house does have some boundaries in place and things are starting to settle down for a few minutes.  What are boundaries and how do they help? I like the definition given by http://www.therapistaid.com that describes boundaries as the limits that you set on activities or relationships.  They help define what is acceptable or unacceptable in a relationship.

I’m assuming if you are…

Beauty, skin deep

2

hello coloured life

‘Beauty is only skin deep’ they say. Then why is it that every emphasis is placed upon the appearance of a woman? The definition of that proverb is that a pleasing appearance is not a guide to character. When I ‘discover’ on Instagram all I literally see are females prancing about in their underwear, butts and boobs I like to call them.

The female essence had been reduced to butts and boobs…doesn’t that just make us proud? Look at yourself and say ‘I am a butt’ or ‘I am a boob’. Thats just makes me cringe to be honest. When we sit back and think about what we believe to be a attractive, we see that it’s all merely physical.

That rant over there brings me to this week’s blog post. As I am shedding the kgs and growing in my weight loss journey, I am discovering that I have unrealistic ideas of what…

AMCARMEN'S KITCHEN

Hello Everyone! I can’t believe that it’s already the last day of March, meaning quarter of the year has just zoomed past in the blink of an eye! I felt like the first part of March went by really quickly for me, and the rest of the month just dragged on slowly to be honest. Maybe it was just because I spent the final week of my travels to New Zealand and Australia in the first week of March and the second week pouting about my post-vacation depression, and then of course dragging myself out of bed and to the office through the rest of March. I sound so pessimistic in this post in comparison to Wednesday’s post when I was all motivational and whatnot. Haha! I don’t mean to be pessimistic, I’m just stating the obvious lack of adventure in my life the moment I arrived back from my…
