Just give it up bro.
your second heart attack
making the doctors
like you were an old Mercedes
with a fading car battery.
I wanted you to stop,
end your suffering
to your next adventure.
But it wasn’t in you to quit.
It wasn’t in your nature
to give up.
Growing up I‘ve never seen you
take a days off
always being a steady workhorse.
You were a fighter all the way
to the end.
You fought in hundreds of battles
fighting off your demons.
But we couldn’t see you
We had to throw in the towel.
You wouldn’t go down
for your own good
because you wanted to die
on your shield.
You were a warrior,
You were my father.
But you look foreign to me
laying in your death-bed
a shell of your former
strong lively self.
You just lay there waiting
for the boatman to ferry you across
to the next world
staring past your family
at the foot of your bed
looking at that whack ass art print
in your room of a tiny sailboat
heading towards a lighthouse.
The meaning was simple
but I wonder if it was meant to be there
making your transition easier.
In any case,
this was your last voyage,
saying our goodbyes.
We will all miss you.
O Captain! My Captain!
Take to the rough seas
one last time
head towards the light
onto your next adventure.
Savory bacon and cheddar waffles with sliced smoked ham, a sunny side up egg and a cherry pepper hollandaise. Perfect for breakfast, brunch or dinner!
I was inspired to make this by Loring Place in New York City. It makes a delicious flavor combination.
Delish had a great recipe for bacon cheddar waffles that I followed.
For the (light version) cherry pepper hollandaise:
Diced cherry peppers
3 ounces (6 tablespoons) light or reduced-fat cream cheese
1 teaspoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
¼ teaspoon kosher salt or coarse sea salt
Add the cream cheese, lemon juice, mustard, and salt to a blender. Puree until the sauce is silky smooth. Stir in the diced cherry peppers.
Planking has become increasingly popular for core strengthening, and for good reason: it works – in large part because it engages multiple muscle groups simultaneously. What are some of the benefits you can expect from adding this exercise to your regular routine?
1. A Toned Belly Planking will help build your deep inner core muscles that lay the groundwork for that six-pack look. As your abdominal muscles become stronger, your mid-section will tighten. Keep in mind, however, that in order to really get “six-pack” abs, you have to shed fat. For men that would be a body fat of about 6 percent, and women around 9 percent, in order to achieve that classic six-pack. This is not necessarily healthy.
2.Reduce Back Pain Planks work for back pain because they strengthen your core, which has the pleasant “side effect” of reducing back pain. They also strengthen your back muscles, especially…

This might just be the creamiest, tastiest quiche I’ve ever made or eaten. More about that soon, but first a little ramble about plants.
For my birthday, last month, Pim gave me a whole family of succulents, in different colours, shapes and sizes. Having plants around purportedly makes people happier, healthier and less stressed. I haven’t taken the time to monitor my blood pressure or cholesterol levels before and after getting them, so I can’t officially confirm any physical health claims, but I definitely do feel a little jolt of happiness every time I glance over at my window sill. I sometimes dream of having a slightly bigger apartment, which I could then fill entirely with plants. Would that make me a crazy plant lady? Considering I have named all my current plants, it probably would. At the same time, I also dream of having several cats, so it could…

Tonight HBO’s series, The Leftovers, will air its series finale.
HBO is known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to storytelling, action, and fearlessness. If you’re an actor and get cast in an HBO series, job security is unlikely but stardom is inevitable. The Leftovers is no exception and is currently the best show on television.
The series, created by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, is a master class in storytelling and mystery. For any answer audiences member receive, 10 more questions surface, and new complexities emerge. The show has gained popularity throughout its three seasons but hasn’t been able to reach the level of fans that Game of Thrones or Veep has found. Which is a shame. The Leftovers is a brilliant show that allows the audience to think and be challenged.
The show begins with a mystery, a mystery that is never answered (and is unlikely to…
