Not OK, Oklahoma (The Abortion Bill)

“OKLAHOMA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” was the text that popped up on my phone along with a screenshot, the contents of which were indistinguishable from the home screen. As I unlocked my phone to see what had caused such a dramatic reaction, I was not prepared for what I was faced with. The screenshot was of a BBC article and in a boldfaced black font the words, “A proposal which would force women to get permission from their sexual partner to allow them to have an abortion has passed the first hurdle in Oklahoma” jumped onto my screen. Any humor I had seen in such a seemingly over-the-top text vanished as I saw the severity of the single sentence.

According to Humphrey, the state legislator who wrote the bill, the fathers of these fetuses deserve a say in the decision of a body that…

Reflecting upon the election, because, now I care. Kind of.

Words That Rhyme and Keep with the Time... or Don't

There isn’t anything that I hate more than politics. Am I blue? Am I red? Do I really care? But I still find myself asking questions and looking back on the last election. No doubt, someone is going to get offended by this.

At first, I just saw the election as just another election. Some dude was going to become president and I wasn’t going to care. I didn’t really mind Obama. I mean, I didn’t love the guy, but I thought his wife was amazing. Secretly, I wish she ran. If there ever would be a wonderful first woman president, it would be her. (I love you Michelle)

But then people started announcing that they were running. Hillary announced and I just kind of ignored her and didn’t take her seriously. I mean, her smile was freakin weird. Some of the things she did were just odd and unnatural.

On the Electoral College – Are you sure you want to reform the Electoral College?

3

Pure Blather

Last time, for those of you not paying attention or somehow reluctant to scroll down and see the last post, I discussed the Electoral College and its historical background, and how it means we don’t elect our president by a direct popular vote.

There are two things to keep in mind when contemplating a reform of the system. First, changing it would require a Constitutional Amendment. You’re just not going to get enough small states (the ones that benefit from the current system) to go along and voluntarily give up influence.

Secondly, though, nowhere in the Constitution does it say how a state must choose its electors. So if one wants to try to reform the Electoral College, the way to do it is in the selection process in the individual states.

There are a two proposals that have been getting serious consideration.

Donald Trump Advocates Abortion Ban thinks Women should be Punished – What are your thoughts about his remarks?

5

According to NBC, in an exclusive interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, the GOP front-runner described himself multiple times as “pro-life” but struggled to define what the legal ramifications of that position should be. When continually pressed for what the answer is regarding punishing women who would break any theoretical ban, Trump said the “answer is that there has to be some form of punishment, yeah.”

Later in the day, his campaign released a statement refocusing who would be punished should abortion become illegal. “If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman,” the statement said. “The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb. My position has not changed — like Ronald Reagan, I am pro-life with exceptions.”

Tabitha Renea West has already collected more than $340 from 28 people since her campaign launched Wednesday. The page had more than 11,000 shares just before noon Thursday.

West said she wants to remove the tattoo from her head to “have a better start out in life and have a second chance.” She apparently got the tattoo when she was “young n (sic) dumb.”

Now that she’s older and looking for a job, she said she “can’t stand to look” at her face anymore and was almost driven to suicide over it.

“Save a life, save me,” she wrote. “Invest in me and I will show you I can be better with my life.”

Does this woman deserve your money to remove her 420 forehead tattoo? If she does go to her GoFundMe Page:
