Bacon Cheddar Waffles & Eggs with Smoked Ham and a Cherry Pepper Hollandaise

2

Pinch of Everything

Savory bacon and cheddar waffles with sliced smoked ham, a sunny side up egg and a cherry pepper hollandaise. Perfect for breakfast, brunch or dinner!

I was inspired to make this by Loring Place in New York City. It makes a delicious flavor combination.

Delish had a great recipe for bacon cheddar waffles that I followed.

For the (light version) cherry pepper hollandaise:

Diced cherry peppers
3 ounces (6 tablespoons) light or reduced-fat cream cheese
1 teaspoon lemon juice
½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
¼ teaspoon kosher salt or coarse sea salt

Add the cream cheese, lemon juice, mustard, and salt to a blender. Puree until the sauce is silky smooth. Stir in the diced cherry peppers.

Summer Purslane & Asparagus Quiche

La Cuisine d'Eli

This might just be the creamiest, tastiest quiche I’ve ever made or eaten. More about that soon, but first a little ramble about plants.

For my  birthday, last month, Pim gave me a whole family of succulents, in different colours, shapes and sizes. Having plants around purportedly makes people happier, healthier and less stressed. I haven’t taken the time to monitor my blood pressure or cholesterol levels before and after getting them, so I can’t officially confirm any physical health claims, but I definitely do feel a little jolt of happiness every time I glance over at my window sill. I sometimes dream of having a slightly bigger apartment, which I could then fill entirely with plants. Would that make me a crazy plant lady? Considering I have named all my current plants, it probably would. At the same time, I also dream of having several cats, so it could…

Cruelty free. Vegan Care. Not tested on animals. Are you as confused as I am?

Wonders in Wellness

I try my best to make the right choices for my family and the environment, but sometimes the choices are endless and it is easy to get lost in the labels and how marketers define their products.

Is a cruelty free product the same as a vegan product? Is a product that is not tested on animals the same as cruelty free? Are we taking into consideration the individual ingredients or the product as a whole? It can get even get more complicated if we consider the skincare industry…

Clarity is essential….here is what I discovered.

Vegan and Cruelty Free?

A vegan product is a product without the addition of ANY animal by products, a cruelty free product is one whose ingredients were never tested on animals….they can be both, or one and the other.

No-Animal-Testing-862x669 Cruelty free does not mean vegan . As a matter of fact, there are quite…

Not Climate Agreement, But Climate Revolt (The Paris Accords)

GODS & RADICALS

“The withdrawal by the United States, the nation with the second highest carbon output in the world (behind China, whose per-capita emissions are less than half those of the US), seems deeply catastrophic.

It is catastrophic, yes. But not for the reasons we might think.”

Environmental and political analysis, from Rhyd Wildermuth

“Philosophers of freedom were mainly, and understandably, concerned with how humans would escape the injustice, oppression, inequality, or even uniformity foisted on them by other humans or human-made systems. Geological time and the chronology of human histories remained unrelated. This distance between the two calendars, as we have seen, is what climate scientists now claim has collapsed….

The mansion of modern freedoms stands on an ever-expanding base of fossil-fuel use.”

Dipesh Chakrabarty, The Climate of History

The world awoke to the news on Thursday that President Donald Trump announced his intention to withdraw the United States from the…

Beauty

Daedelus Kite

Beauty is transcendent. One should no more attempt to possess and own a beautiful object, idea, mind or person than one should attempt to bottle an ocean wave; a jar full of simple salty water is never again quite the same as the turbulent wilderness of its source. When we ourselves become owned by a beautiful idea (and what is beauty in essence, other than an idea or a perception of mind ?) we often enough fail to see that in aspiring to own, we ourselves become owned by the idea of that thing we initially sought to capture, to possess. To appreciate the beauty and symmetry of an idea or concept is enough for me – I do not need to own anything. One does not need to own a work of art to truly or fully understand or appreciate the deep beauty of its message.
