The Strong National Museum of Play has finally selected its first class of video games to enter the World Video Game Hall of Fame.

The six games are: “Doom,” “Pac-Man,” “Pong,” “Super Mario Bros.,” “Tetris” and “World of Warcraft.” With the exception of WoW, all are classic games that gamers have been playing since before the new millennium.

The six games, which were announced Thursday during a special ceremony in Rochester, were chosen by a committee composed of journalists, scholars and video game industry members who based their decision on a selection of criteria: icon status, longevity, geographical reach and wider influence on culture.

The committee considered some of these games to also be trailblazers in their genre.

  1. I played World of Warcraft for more than 6 years… Yes, I am a nerd. Lol. Still miss it quite a lot, the community, all the fun. Actually considering to start playing again as the new expansion has just launched not that long time ago. 😀

I used to be a very fanatic gamer, but have stopped playing for about 4 to 5 years now. I’m back to oldschool gaming (which is fantasy and sci-fi boardgames ). As for my favorite games: I loved Doom. Both the classic and the remake Doom 3. But my favorite alltime game has got to be the Mass Effect trilogy. It came about as close to making your own Star Wars saga, as any game ever did. I absolutely loved it.

My aunt used to have one of the mini-PacMac video games. I was enamoured 🙂 We’re really into PokemonGo! right now, but we are lovers of board games. My boys love all sorts of video games, but prefer games with a storyline — like the Lego Video Games. We also have a plethora of vintage gaming systems….I should probably do a wlak-through those on my blog 😉

Well I still play a lot of video games, but as a kid it was anything Nintendo related. Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. The great thing is, Nintendo’s games are still so wonderful.

A big hoo-hah for modern indie titles like Ori and the Blind Forest, though. That game is incredible.

Old school retro Resident Evil. Thrilled with the remastered versions too 🙂
